All fear Bruce Willis (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)
Bruce Willis is getting antsy because he wants to leave his digital music collection to his heirs. I don’t envy him.. even though he’s BRUCE FUCKING WILLIS taking on Apple is not easy.
It does raise an interesting debate that quite frankly scares the fuck out of me though: Who do I trust with my music in the future?
For my dad it was easy. He bought a shit load of vinyl. And even though as he gets older, finding new record players will be hard, I imagine they will still be available in some form or another for another 50 years at least. Gramophones are.
But what about my digital music? The albums I’ve fallen in love with since I stopped buying CDs? Yeah, I can use iTunes Match to get them all in the Cloud so that if my hard drive crashes I’ll still have them but where are Apple going to be in 50 years? I’d like to think they’ll still be going strong and I can access my music but what if I can’t? What if the worst case scenario happens and I loose everything?
And don’t say “oh well you still be able to buy it again I guess in a new format”. No won’t. Not all of it. Will I be able to buy the EP by some obscure punk band from Sevenoaks that I got off bandcamp and I fucking love? Nope. I’ll never be able to listen to it again.
This is serious stuff.
